Claire S. - V8346, I think I'm close

But I'm not sure how close...

I redrew the seam line on the back armhole to take up some of the bunching on the back. Then I reset the right sleeve with the shoulder dot back in the original spot.

The new pic is on the left, the mess from the last post is on the right.

The armhole now looks like a smoother line. There is still a bit of bunching just at the bottom but do I try to get rid if it ? At what point am I overfitting ?

To my amateur eyes, it looks like you are getting close. I am not an expert, so I'll be reading others' replies with great interest. I applaud your tenacity!

Claire, I don't know how it could get better! That change made a lot of difference.

What are you wearing underneath the muslin? Perhaps the armscye of what you have on underneath is a bit lower than the armscye of your coat pattern and it's pulling the side back and sleeve both down. Try it on with a closer fitting garment and see if the bunching goes away. If so, then you'll have to figure out whether you should scoop out the armscye a bit (maybe .25"?).

Kayy - I'm wearing a snug tee - I've figured out that this coat is so close fitting that it will only handle close fitting tees and & sweaters - those with nice high fitting armholes :-)

Right now, even with the little bunching, it's VERY comfortable...I think though, I could probably 'fiddle' with it forever. How do I know when I'm done ?

As far as fiddling with it forever, I totally understand. In the past, I have made the mistake of overfitting jackets which turned out much too close fitting-but looked great as long as I did not move. Maybe you should consider lowering the armhole just a little. I reached a point where I could live with the fit of my muslin and just started cutting it out the fashion fabric.

I think you sleeves look good. Remember that muslin tends to show every little wrinkle.
Can you move your arms as you would like to be able to do? If so, I think you should stop here. If you feel that the sleeves restrict your movements unnecessarily, fiddle on.

I'd agree with Gry. If you can move your arms, your muslin is close enough. Remember, the muslin is just your pattern, and once it's close enough, you'll cut your wool and baste it together and fine tune the fitting in the wool. So long as the basics are taken care of, length and width and movement-wise.
I'd say move on.

Thanks Everyone !!!

My goodness ! I'm almost done ! (I need a smiley doing a happy dance LOL)

I can move VERY well in this muslin - considering the close fit, can raise my arms, move 'em forward, etc.

So...I'll shift the left sleeve tonight to get rid of the bunching on that side then get DH to help me level out the hem in front.

My front waist is tilted up. As I lower it at the waist, it doesn't seem to be as comfortable, so I've been looking up how to fix it.

One of my books (Fast Fix, I think) says to fix it at the hemline - measuring up from the floor and lowering the hemline to make it level. If this is way off base, someone please let me know.

oops, Fast 'Fit' (I wonder if Fast Fix was freudian slip ?)
