I'm trying to get a handle on the group's activity so far. I know of 10 participants who are in the muslin process, or are using patterns that are TNT and won't be starting a new muslin, or are continuing a project that is already in process.
That leaves, well, a lot unaccounted for.
How many of you are in the process of putting together a muslin/toile and will have it finished in the next week, or are using a previously fitted pattern? Leave a comment, please.
How many of you plan to have your muslin ready for fitting the last week in June? Again, comment, please.

I'll go through the next couple muslin posts that get put up, then after that I expect that what you're looking for in fit will be clear and the sew-along part of this venture can jump into action and everyone can help each other through the fitting analysis.
Tentatively I'd like to have all the muslin fittings finished by the end of June. However, since June is a busy month for many, it's unrealistic that all will be finished by June 30. I'd like to put a cap on it, though, so that the group can move forward as a whole: All fitting muslins that are going to be put up for group critique should be posted no later than July 15. If you cannot make this deadline and still would like a muslin critique, please post photos on your own blog to collect opinions, then leave a comment here directing participants to your blog.

I've made the commitment to have the next steps written up, illustrated and ready for blog publication by July 1.
My personal plans: I'm leaving town June 26 and will be off-line until July 7.
My schedule for getting the Guides up:
July 1-15
- Cut the fabric, underlinings/interlining, and interfacing
- Mount the under/interlinings
- Apply interfacings to fronts, and shape collar and lapels
- bound buttonholes
- assembling the fronts
- pocket treatments

I'm not at the muslin stage yet, and may not make one at all. I plan on a jacket-type coat and the measurements are good right out of the envelope.
July is looking fun fun fun! :)
My muslin will be done next week.
I'm working on my muslin this week and next. Actually, I'm posting it here and on my blog today. I will be gone for two weeks in July, too, so I'll have some catching up to do or else I'll need to get ahead!
My move (two weeks ago) has put most of my sewing to a halt for now (with the exception of a knit dress I worked on a couple of hours that was cut prior to the move.) I'm afraid that I cannot commit to any specific timescale; I've not even purchased fabric yet. My participation is going to be more spontaneous rather than structured to the set timescales. This wasn't my intent, but getting settled is taking longer than I thought it would. I really mis-judged timing this side of the move.
I'm about to make my muslin, and hope to post this weekend.
I plan to start my muslin this weekend and hope to post photos by this time next week. By the way, I received my notions package today.
My two fabrics, underlinings, and linings are laundered, steamed, pre-shrunk & all ready to be cut (I destroyed my new Rowenta iron in the process - wimpy German engineering, AAAAARGH!).
My two patterns are all cut out, and ready for muslin. I'll be at our fabric outlet tonight to find some muslin-likely fabric, and I'll be doing the muslins over the weekend.
I decided I won't be making the Burda trench coat in this blog after all. Much as I love the pattern, I'm disappointed that it doesn't have a back yoke. Anyhow, I still have a nice trench that I love & wear. I'd rather make a light unlined parka with the short yardage of the red B'berry I got, and save the tan+lining for another instance.
I am just adjusting my jacket pattern, hope to work on the muslin this weekend.
For my husband's coat I should have the muslin finished by the end of the weekend. Because I don't have to make any adjustments in the flat pattern stage for him, I started his muslin first.
For my coat, I'm actually rethinking my plan. I haven't found any suitable underlinings for the houndstooth to make it substantial enough for the coat, so I'm leaning more towards using a camel-colored wool melton and then I'll probably use a different pattern altogether. I should have a decision made and a muslin put together by the end of the month for mine.
I'm cutting out and marking the pieces now, and will try to put together the 1st attempt at a muslin in the next couple of days.
My muslin should be done within the next week, and definitely before Wednesday. If it is not done before then, I am afraid I am going to have to push it into July. But I am working hard at posting something soon.
I'll have the muslin with photos by next Friday.
I'm not at muslin stage yet. I'm leaving town for 10 days starting on the 21st of June and then again for four days on the second week of July. I'll truly begin muslin stage on the 12th of July week-end. Hopefully I can work on the muslin that whole week and be able to cut in the fabric on the following week-end.
Realistically mine won’t be done until the first week of July. Will try for next week but may not get the chance - other things on my "to do" list.
I intend to work on my muslin this weekend, with the goal of finishing and posting it by June end. I have some time in the sewing studio of the local junior college, so I'm trying to take advantage of that space & equipment for this project. I'm out of town for 2 weeks in July, so I'll be playing catch up the last week of July and into August.

I am working on my muslin, hopefully done by the weekend.
My initial pattern adjustments are done. Since it looks like I will be able to finish the JCC on time, I'm working on that first (slow sewer that I am). I will get the muslin done as soon as I finish the capsule. It will be done by July 15 but may not make it by June 30. Have a safe trip!!
Marji,
I plan to finish my muslin this week end. It is cut and ready to go. I hope to post pics next week but that is a new thing for me, so I'm not sure how it will work. I also received my notions package. Thanks!
I'm planning to start my muslin this weekend and hope to move right along with it. If my fabric is what I think it is, that's chosen too. I'm behind I know, but I'm hoping to catch right up.
I'm planning to catch up next weekend. I was on vacation June 1-8, had two extremely busy work weeks with a working weekend between, and now I have just tomorrow and I'm out of town again from Sunday to Wednesday. I've done the tape measure/flat pattern alterations, and I planned to cut and put together the muslin next weekend. Then I'll have the three day weekend of the fourth to catch up. I already had the fabric and all notions, and I ordered lining which I now have. I'm a pretty fast sewist when I get going, and can alter flat patterns well with a tape measure and some tissue, so I am sure I can catch it up. After this week, the rest of the summer I'll be home with mostly free weekends. K
I've finished adjusting my pattern and am now ready to begin my muslin. My goal is to complete the muslin by the end of June.
I will have my muslin finished by the end of the month. The coat is for my fiance and he is a professional musician, so is in and out of town with gigs...if I could keep him in the house for two days in a row, I could get it finished in a snap!!
I also have some books on tailoring for anyone else making a men's coat if you want to contact me, you can catch up with me throgh my email over on my own blog.
Cut out muslin pieces last weekend, going to sew them up this weekend....hopefully pictures soon!!
My pattern will be Vogue 7978. I am using the same pattern, view and fabric as another on the blog. It should be interesting to see the results.
I will not even get to my mulin until after next weekend. I am in a high pressure deadline time at work until then. There is no time for much else. How I long to vaccuum right now!

Muslin is done and I'm getting ready to post pictures.

Yeah! I'm not the only one who's running a bit late!
I just discovered a week ago that I need to find a subletter for my current apartment, find a new apartment in Denver, and move on August 1. Exciting? Yes. Bodes well for my coat progress? No. But I hope to stay as close to Marji's schedule as possible.
I am starting my muslin this week, I only just decided on fabric etc.... looking forward to the fun part
Marji, my muslin should be done by end of June. Let me amend that - my first try at a muslin will be done by then, I'm not sure that I'll have made the corrections by then!
Elizabeth
I've decided to sew two coats instead of one. The first is Burda 7856. It is VLF, and I hadn't planned on doing a muslin for it. The second, Vogue 7978; does need a muslin for fit, and I'm using a chocolate corduroy, and had planned a few style changes that required a muslin anyway. So I'll be starting on it this week, and will be ready to go by month's end.
I have a few other projects in the queue, but plan to have the muslin done my the holiday weekend.
I completed my muslin last weekend, but do not have a digital camera right now to post pics. However it seems to fit ok. All seams are straight and where they should be and I can't see any major drag lines, but I do think I will add just a touch through the hip area to make room for the extra fabric thickness. Hopefully I can get some pics soon as it would be so nice to have others evaluate the fit.
Marji... no doubt I am behind. Probably by a week. It'll be the end of first week of July before I have my muslin to post. But I will post it and welcome suggestions/ comments. I'm using raincoat material, so some of the earlier tutorial post are quite valuable to me. Thanks for doing thsi
Well, I too am well behind but should have my muslin done in early July and should be catching up with everything soon after that.
I am behind, just as many others are. I thought I'd have my life together on the weekend - I finally have my fabrics - but could not find the pattern for the life.
BUT I finally found it this afternoon. I will be making my muslin next weekend/early the week after. I think that is still barely June!
I just today started fitting the tissue and making basic pattern alterations to recently OOP S4403 the single breasted peter pan collared model.
Truthfully I'd be even more behind, but the lovely and talented MarilynB came over, measured me and the pattern every which way, started the alterations and left me my to-do list on the corrections we did not get to.
I had to start with a larger size than I am used to, but actually have relatively few alterations needed. I do have to add 2" to the bicep, and plan to use the Singer alteration, and do a 1" FBA.
We have already lowered the BP and did a little tuck to shorten the sideseams making the waist and hip curves more nearly meet mine.
I have a night or two of pattern work left, then on to the muslin.
I'm using the Black Italian wool from Gorgeous Fabrics. It is quite thick, useful here in Boston, and might not need the support of an underlining.
Thanks for the help, Marilyn. Both for the actual help and for the jump start I needed to get going on this project.
Ack. I feel like I'm back in junior high, getting busted for not doing my homework. You see, I used to have this algebra teacher who would have us turn in the previous night's homework - but he only did that every few days. I frequently gambled that he wouldn't have us turn it in, and a good chunk of the time, I guessed right. But sometimes...well, I didn't.
This is one of those times.
"Muslin? What muslin? We were supposed to do a muslin?"
Christine
(who is now running to gather coat pattern and drafting tools to grade that %&@*$ thing from a size 12 up to a 14)
I'll do my muslin next week. Had lots of business to attend to this week. My coat has simple lines so the fitting should be fairly easy.
Marguerite
I have fabric and pattern. I have vacation days in July that I plan to complete my tissue fitting and go from there as to whether I make a muslin or not. I have pretty good success with this method. I will probably continue to be behind in this process but following along.
I just finished up school, so I'll be working on my muslin soon. I am a bit behind many of the others, but i hope to catch up.
As usual I'm lagging far behind everyone else. No muslin here by June 30th. Too much going on at work and home right now. I'll be madly scrambling to catch up.
I am using a TNT, but I will sew a muslin because the shoulders were a little wide last time I sewed it. I can have it done in the next week. THANKS Marji!!
I'm not doing a muslin because I'm modifying my jacket pattern by lengthening it. I've made this jacket at least 8 times so I'm pretty confident in the fit. I"m way behind otherwise because of being away and because of a flood in our house. Hope to catch up eventually.
Linda (SewingLibrarian)
I'm way behind, too, but will catch up this coming week with muslin fitting.
Jeannie
I'm also running late due to a long vacation. My muslin is about halfway assembled, but I don't think I'll be able to finish and photograph it until after the July 15th deadline, so I'll post on my blog when I do.
